Brief : Students from KAGC celebrate Earth Day together

Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on April 22. Worldwide, various events are held to demonstrated support for environmental protection. First celebrated in 1970, Earth Day events in more than 193 countries are now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network.

The Diploma of Green Technology Management (DGTM) students from Kolej Antarabangsa Greencity (KAGC) organized an event regarding Earth Day celebration on the 20th April 2017 (Thursday) in conjunction with the International Mother Earth Day which falls on the 22nd April annually. The event is a one (1) day event at the lobby of the college. The event was scheduled to start at 10:30am to 4:00pm. The students participated in the event are students from the School of Green Sciences and other schools as well whereas the lecturers were Miss Jivitra, Miss Asyikin, Mr Syazwan and Mr Chuck.

The students and lecturers from DGTM gathered at the college lobby at 8:00am. Everyone were preparing and decorating the lobby for the event. There were three (3) booths for the students to sell their handcrafts and beverages related to the event. The students from Diploma of Hospitality and Tourism were selling mini-handcrafts and beverages such as Mojito, Green Tea, Ginger Lemon Tea, and handmade handicraft. The student-in-charge of selling student handmade handicraft was John Lim and it was single-handed made by himself.

There was a handprint pledges declaration along with dedication messages to the Mother Earth. Everyone was invited to paint their hand and pledge to Mother Earth. They were given a hand-paint wooden clip as a small souvenir.

The event started at 11:00am with Globe-Making Competition participated by students from all school except DGTM students. The event ended at 12:00pm won by students from Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM).

The event continues with environmental related games such as eco-quizzes and eco-word search. Whoever answered correctly won a small prize. The last part of the event was eco-element hunt. The hunt was won by a group of three from Diploma in Hospitality & Management (DHTM). The event ended at 5pm. Students and lecturers took a group photo and their respective courses group photo before heading home.
